{"id":10329,"date":"2016-01-06T18:25:09","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T23:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=10329"},"modified":"2016-12-31T07:14:21","modified_gmt":"2016-12-31T12:14:21","slug":"roatan-islas-de-la-bahia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=10329","title":{"rendered":"Roatan, Islas de la Bahia, Honduras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wednesday &#8211; January 6, 2016<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon&#8230;..&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2961.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10330\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2961.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2961\" width=\"400\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The ship traveled along the Central American coast all night and we arrived at the island of Roatan, the largest of Honduras&#8217; Bay Islands. The Norwegian Dawn anchored offshore with three other gigantic ships, like pleasure yachts in a cove. We didn&#8217;t have any scheduled excursions this morning so we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and then obtained &#8220;tender tickets&#8221; to go ashore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2974.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10331\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2974.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2974\" width=\"400\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2984.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10332\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_2984.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2984\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was just a row of recently built tourist shops crowded with cruise ship passengers. We noticed a road leaving the shops so we took a walk into town.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10333\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3008.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3008\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10334\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3002.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3002\" width=\"265\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3047.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10335\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3047.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3047\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10336\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3016.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3016\" width=\"400\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10337\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3032.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3032\" width=\"400\" height=\"254\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The town reminded me of other Caribbean communities with brightly painted buildings and welcoming signs. Schools were still closed for the holidays and children were everywhere. It seemed like a friendly place and I hope the economy was boosted by the cruise ships.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3045.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10338\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3045.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3045\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We caught one of the tenders back to the ship and sat on a high\u00a0deck and watched the world go by. As the sun set, the Norwegian Jade, our sister ship, sailed off into the great beyond&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3076.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10339\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/DSC_3076.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_3076\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we were getting our sea-legs; or just getting into the &#8216;swing&#8217; of things on board. No worries.
