16, 2016<\/p>\n<p>I left New York City on a bright cloudless 50 degree day for the long trip to <em>Foz do Iguacu<\/em>, Brazil. \u00a0I met my travel buddy, Linda, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and we boarded an Azul Airlines plane for the overnight\u00a0trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil. \u00a0I highly recommend Azul with its modern beige leather seats, soft blue interior lights, very clean facilities, and\u00a0pleasant flight attendants.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0621.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11332\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0621.jpg\" alt=\"img_0621\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Foz do Iguacu<\/em> is a city located in the south-western part of Brazil on the border of Argentina and Paraguay. \u00a0It was a quick hour plane ride between Sao Paulo and Foz do Iguacu and we arrived in the late afternoon and checked into the Best Western Taroba Hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_1013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11333\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_1013.jpg\" alt=\"img_1013\" width=\"323\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We went out for a walk to explore the neighborhood and found the &#8216;Friday Night Market&#8217; across the street from the hotel outside the zoological gardens:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0635.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11334\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0635.jpg\" alt=\"img_0635\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had a light supper prepared by two local women who cooked our fish to order.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0632.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11335\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0632.jpg\" alt=\"img_0632\" width=\"400\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Linda and I\u00a0sat outside with several families and we enjoyed \u00a0a delicious dinner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0633.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11336\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0633.jpg\" alt=\"img_0633\" width=\"400\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A band played Brazilian music while we strolled through the market to look at the crafts for sale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0638.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11337\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0638.jpg\" alt=\"img_0638\" width=\"400\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a fun evening and we were able to practice a little Portuguese.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16204\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_0636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 15 &amp;
