{"id":12168,"date":"2017-08-19T17:13:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-19T21:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=12168"},"modified":"2017-11-27T18:53:09","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T23:53:09","slug":"sea-day-norway-to-holland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=12168","title":{"rendered":"Sea Day &#8211; Norway to Holland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; August 19, 2017<\/p>\n<p>Last night as we left Hardangerfjord, the Captain announced that we might have rough seas ahead. \u00a0He predicted ten foot waves; assured us the ship was fine and we should hold on to handrails especially on the stairs. \u00a0 It was calm as we continued through the long fjord but it started to rain about eight o\u2019clock. \u00a0We were having dinner in the dining room, which is in the aft end of the ship, overlooking the Norwegian mountains. \u00a0We could feel the motion of the ship as it moved out into open waters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2731.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_2731.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2731\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sometime very early this morning, the ship\u2019s movements woke me up. \u00a0The bed shook and vibrated as the room pitched and rolled. \u00a0I got up to see what was happening outside but only saw rolling seas. \u00a0Later when I looked out again, there were whitecaps on top of the waves.<\/p>\n<p>At 8:30, the temperature was 57 degrees and the wind was blowing at forty-three knots from the south\/south west (9 on the Beaufort Scale). \u00a0We were off the coast of Denmark in 150 feet of water according to the information on the television. \u00a0We have traveled 4133 nautical miles since Boston.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2732.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_2732.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2732\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I got up, I didn\u2019t feel so well. \u00a0I put a Scopolamine patch behind my left ear and waited to feel better. \u00a0The Rotterdam pitched, rolled, shook, and vibrated all day long today.
