August 26, 2017<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3894.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3894.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3894\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My bed shook and vibrated so much last night it kept waking me up. \u00a0I was reminded of those vibrating chairs at Brookstone\u2019s stores in the mall. \u00a0I felt like I was lying in a salt shaker! \u00a0I assumed it was the \u201cstabilizers\u201d which keep the ship on an even keel, BUT\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3895.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3895.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3895\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later in the morning, I was awakened by a stillness and I realized my bed stopped vibrating. \u00a0I thought we had stopped and arrived at Portree, but when I looked out, the sea was flat calm. \u00a0So I went back to sleep.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3914.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3914.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3914\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the sun came up we were approaching the beautiful rocky shore of the Isle of Skye.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3943.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3943.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3943\" width=\"400\" height=\"256\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jeff and I had driven to Skye in 2007 and we had good memories of the stark beauty of the Scottish highlands despite the \u201cmisty\u201d weather. \u00a0We learned that it rains so much in Scotland that the locals don\u2019t refer to their damp weather as \u201crain,\u201d they called it \u201cmist.\u201d \u00a0And no self-respecting Scotsman ever carried an umbrella. \u00a0Fortunately for us this morning it wasn\u2019t \u201cmisting\u201d and the wind was calm. \u00a0Not a typical Scottish morning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3932.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3932.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3932\" width=\"400\" height=\"271\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ship slowly approached the harbor at Portree and dropped anchor just outside the green buoy and the large rocks jutting out from the shore. \u00a0We went forward to take photos and admire the beauty of the hills. \u00a0We saw dolphins playing in the water and watched the crew prepare the tenders. \u00a0We were amazed that it was 54 degrees and a bright sunny day!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3938.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3938.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3938\" width=\"400\" height=\"288\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we relaxed and waited for our turn to go ashore. \u00a0Portree is only about 200 years old and was created as a fishing village at the beginning of the 19th century. \u00a0Today the capital of the Isle of Skye has only about 2300 inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_4011.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_4011.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 4011\" width=\"400\" height=\"270\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Large clouds rolled by as we walked around the town and took post card pictures of the harbor from many vantage points.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3976.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3976.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3976\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We stopped in at a restaurant called the Granary for tea and scones about noon. \u00a0Later Jeff had a glass of cider at the pub in one of the hotels. \u00a0A British tourist told us this was a holiday in Great Britain so there were many English tourists in town. \u00a0There was also a tour bus load of visitors from Spain and, of course, there was us from the Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_4002.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_4002.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 4002\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3983.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3983.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3983\" width=\"400\" height=\"298\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3995.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_3995.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3995\" width=\"400\" height=\"271\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We returned to the ship in the afternoon and relaxed on the balcony of our cabin with classical music from the television. \u00a0We went to the dining room about 6:30 and ate with a nice couple from Tennessee, Ann and Harry. \u00a0Afterwards, we went up to the crow&#8217;s nest lounge to watch the ship leave Portree and cruise through the calm waters of the bay.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_4008.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC_4008.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 4008\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow we have a sea day and I\u2019m looking forward to a nice relaxing day. \u00a0Our next port of call on Monday is Djupivigor, Iceland &#8211;
