{"id":13429,"date":"2017-12-15T08:44:30","date_gmt":"2017-12-15T13:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=13429"},"modified":"2018-01-02T09:36:13","modified_gmt":"2018-01-02T14:36:13","slug":"scottsdale-to-sedona-arizona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=13429","title":{"rendered":"Scottsdale to Sedona, Arizona"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; December 15, 2017<\/p>\n<p>While we were in Arizona we wanted to visit the town of Sedona, which is only 125 miles or a two hour drive north of Phoenix. \u00a0It would have been a good day-trip, but we wanted to stay and experience the famous scenery of Sedona. \u00a0We soon left saguaro cactuses and the Sonoran Desert behind and drove through the hilly and \u00a0tree-less Prescott National Forest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1197.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13430\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After speeding through boring wilderness, the topography changed and we knew we had arrived in &#8220;Red Rock Country.&#8221; \u00a0Fortunately, there were several pull-outs so we could take pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3754.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13431\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3754.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3757.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13432\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_3757.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13433\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sedona is a lovely western town nestled in the Verde Valley among impressive red sandstone rock formations. \u00a0The town seemed to be spread out into three distinct sections: Uptown, West Sedona, and Oak Creek.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13434\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_1300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We drove slowly northbound on Route 179, passing spectacular scenery with names such as Bell Rock and Castle Rock.
