{"id":14167,"date":"2018-07-25T16:42:12","date_gmt":"2018-07-25T20:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14167"},"modified":"2018-07-25T20:58:26","modified_gmt":"2018-07-26T00:58:26","slug":"mystic-interlude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14167","title":{"rendered":"Mystic Interlude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday the 13th of May through Sunday May 15, 2018<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7350-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14169\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7350-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We drove up to Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut which is one of my favorite places to visit. \u00a0It&#8217;s famous for being the largest maritime museum in the U.S. and for its extensive library. \u00a0The Seaport has a large collection of old sailing ships and boats stored on 19 acres along the Mystic River. Storytellers and historians bring the past back to life in the recreated 19th century seafaring village.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7310.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14170\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7310.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"262\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7328-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14172\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7328-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The heart of the seaport is the Charles W. Morgan, a three masted square rigged sailing ship launched in 1841. \u00a0The Morgan is the last of an American whaling fleet sailing out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. \u00a0It&#8217;s fun to climb aboard and explore the ship and imagine what it must have been like to hunt and process whales on board during the Morgan&#8217;s 80 year whaling career. \u00a0With a crew of 35, signed on for 3-year stints, the ship &#8220;roamed every corner of the globe in pursuit of whales.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>George H. to sort and shuck oysters for the 19th century seafood market on Long Island Sound.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7394.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14176\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSC_7394.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Mayflower II: \u00a0Restoration of the wooden reproduction of the original Mayflower is continuing at Mystic Seaport. \u00a0In 2020, the ship will be ready for the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims&#8217;
