October 22, 2018<\/p>\n<p>It was a long Labor Day Weekend in New Zealand and our last few days in Auckland, so we wanted to make the best of it. \u00a0The weather was gorgeous so we took a Harbor Cruise and visited the town of Devonport across the bay. \u00a0There are many islands in the bay and a multitude of ferries to visit them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7353.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7353.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7353\" width=\"400\" height=\"282\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9697.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/DSC_9697.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9697\" width=\"400\" height=\"252\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ferry dock in Auckland:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7346.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7346.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7346\" width=\"400\" height=\"293\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, we explored La Cigale French Market in Britomart and had brunch at L\u2019Assiette Cafe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9656.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/DSC_9656.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9656\" width=\"400\" height=\"213\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Auckland comes to life after dark. \u00a0Rugby is the national game of New Zealand and there was a big game between the All Blacks, (New Zealand&#8217;s national team) and a team from Tonga. \u00a0The All Blacks won, but everyone celebrated!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7383.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_7383.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7383\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7389.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_7389.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7389\" width=\"400\" height=\"318\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One afternoon, we took a \u201cWilderness Tour\u201d with a company called Bush &amp; Beach. \u00a0Our first stop was the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. \u00a0The Arataki Center:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9774.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_9774.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9774\" width=\"400\" height=\"277\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our tour guide, Dawn, drove us out to the Tasman Sea to see the black sand beaches of the western coast. \u00a0We stopped for tea and cookies and photos at Pihe Beach:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9805.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_9805.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9805\" width=\"400\" height=\"247\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9844.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_9844.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9844\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lion Rock:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9838.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_9838.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9838\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Auckland is a multi-cultural city populated with people from all over the world. \u00a0A large number of Maori people live in the city and there are many young people from Asia. \u00a0We had a good farewell dinner at a Belgian restaurant called The Occidental.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7430.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_7430.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7430\" width=\"400\" height=\"293\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Labor Day Monday was a beautiful, warm sunny day, and our last day in Auckland, so we took a 40 minute ferry ride to Waiheke Island. \u00a0The island was advertised as a &#8220;winery island\u201d because of its many vineyards, but we discovered that it was much more. \u00a0There were gorgeous beaches, a pretty town and beautiful scenery. \u00a0We took a Hop On &#8211; Hop Off Bus to explore the island and visited two spectacular beaches. \u00a0Waiheke would be a great place to live.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_7445.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_7445.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 7445\" width=\"400\" height=\"286\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_9945.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_9945-1.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 9945\" width=\"400\" height=\"262\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had a wonderful time in Auckland! \u00a0It made our list of &#8216;world\u2019s favorite cities&#8217; and we\u2019re sorry it\u2019s not closer to home so we could visit again soon.
