{"id":14410,"date":"2018-10-26T00:14:14","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T04:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14410"},"modified":"2018-11-07T16:56:12","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T21:56:12","slug":"wellington-new-zealand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14410","title":{"rendered":"Wellington, New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; \u00a0October 26, 2018<\/p>\n<p>We enjoyed a \u201cSea Day\u201d yesterday as the Majestic Princess traveled down the eastern coast of the North Island from Tauranga to the capital city of Wellington. \u00a0The seas were calm and the weather was pleasant: 58 degrees F. \u00a0The ship tied up at the commercial dock where we had a good view of the harbor. \u00a0A ferry boat in the photo below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0197.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0197.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0197\" width=\"400\" height=\"256\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ship is sooo big that it\u2019s difficult to get a good picture of it unless I\u2019m far away. \u00a0I took the photo below from the ground looking up toward the middle of the ship. \u00a0The \u201cbump out\u201d at the top is called \u201cThe Sky Walk.\u201d \u00a0It has a glass floor so passengers can look out and down to the water when we\u2019re out at sea.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0201.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0201.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0201\" width=\"400\" height=\"247\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t sign up for an excursion because we wanted to walk around and explore Wellington on our own. \u00a0A shuttle bus took us to the center of the city. \u00a0The Parliament buildings are in the photo below. \u00a0The new round structure is called \u201cThe Bee Hive\u201d for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0208.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0208.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0208\" width=\"400\" height=\"273\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked to the famous Museum of New Zealand also known as Te Papa Tongarewa. \u00a0We really needed more than a day to see the entire museum, so we tried to see as much as we could in a short amount of time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0211.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0211.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0211\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0242.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0242.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0242\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0252.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0252.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0252\" width=\"400\" height=\"257\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Te Papa had an excellent Maori section and interactive exhibits of contemporary art. \u00a0The building itself was an interesting artistic creation. \u00a0It\u2019s located on Wellington&#8217;s harbor:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_0227.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_0227.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 0227\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later, we walked over to Cuba Street to find a place for lunch. \u00a0There were many ethnic restaurants: Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Turkish, etc. \u00a0We had meat and shepherd\u2019s pies at J. J.
