{"id":14577,"date":"2018-11-10T02:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T07:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14577"},"modified":"2018-11-19T02:07:51","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T07:07:51","slug":"cairns-to-kuranda-to-sydney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14577","title":{"rendered":"Cairns to Kuranda to Sydney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; November 10, 2018<\/p>\n<p>We set our alarm for 5:30AM so we could have time for breakfast and meet the tour group in the lobby by 7:30. \u00a0The Shangri-La Hotel in Cairns is a lovely comfortable place to stay and I wish I could have spent more time there. We all checked out and rode the coach up the mountain into the rainforest to the village of Kuranda.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_1836.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_1836.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 1836\" width=\"400\" height=\"116\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked through the village to the Skysail Rainforest Cableway. \u00a0It was too early and all the shops in town were closed. \u00a0The Cableway is a 7.5 km scenic ride above the Barron Gorge National Park in the tropics of Queensland\u2019s World Heritage Area north of Cairns.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_1913.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_1913.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 1913\" width=\"400\" height=\"273\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Cableway travels over the world\u2019s oldest continually surviving rainforest on earth. \u00a0It was the longest cableway in the world when it was completed in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_1923.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_1923.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 1923\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Six-person gondolas travel through the McAlister Range of mountains over the canopy of the rainforest trees. \u00a0It takes about 45 minutes to travel the entire distance one-way. \u00a0The developers established an agreement with the Djabugay Tribal Aboriginal Community for protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage. \u00a0The cableway was built by helicopters so the ancient rainforest would not be disturbed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_1934.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_1934.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 1934\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The coach bus met us at the end of the Cableway and drove us to Cairns Airport to go to Sydney. \u00a0The \u201cAirport Tour of Australia&#8221; continues!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_1877.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_1877.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 1877\" width=\"400\" height=\"277\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We arrived at Sydney Airport at 4:00pm and were driven to the Four Seasons Hotel on Circular Quay in downtown Sydney. \u00a0We checked in and had the rest of the day and evening to ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8396.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_8396.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8396\" width=\"400\" height=\"318\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8418.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_8418.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8418\" width=\"400\" height=\"279\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8423.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_8423.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8423\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Sydney Opera House is across the Quay and looks beautiful at night:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8420.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_8420.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8420\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; November 10, 2018 We set our alarm for 5:30AM so we could have time for breakfast and meet the tour group in the lobby by 7:30. \u00a0The Shangri-La Hotel in Cairns is a lovely comfortable place to stay and I wish I could have spent more time there.
