This morning was a lovely 68 degrees with large puffy clouds rolling against a bright blue sky. \u00a0We really like Sydney and are having fun exploring. We\u2019re gradually working down our list of \u201cThings to Do in Sydney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We passed Sydney\u2019s Public Library:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2889.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2889.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2889\" width=\"400\" height=\"218\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked through the Royal Botanical Gardens. \u00a0I love botanical gardens and I could spend many days exploring the beautifully landscaped scenery and reading the signs that identify Australian plants and trees. \u00a0This goes back to my youth in the Bronx because my grandparents lived within walking distance of the N.Y. Botanical Gardens. \u00a0My brother and I spent many summer days wandering around the Gardens, admiring beautiful native and non-native trees and plants.<\/p>\n<p>A gorgeous Banyan tree:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2892.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2892.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2892\" width=\"400\" height=\"248\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Australia has an incredible diversity of unusual vegetation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2897.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2897.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2897\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2911.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2911.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2911\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was the entrance to a special exhibit of carnivorous plants. \u00a0It was called, \u201cPlants That Bite!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2902.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2902.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2902\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the Botanical Gardens is the Art Gallery of New South Wales. \u00a0This is Sydney\u2019s major art museum with exhibits from around the world, including Aboriginal art.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2960.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2960.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2960\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Neither the Botanical Gardens or the Art Gallery charged an admittance fee. \u00a0All public museums in Sydney were free, but sometimes there was a charge to see special exhibits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2969.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2969.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2969\" width=\"400\" height=\"258\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The exterior of the Gallery was neo-classic Australian sandstone, but the interior of the building was quite modern. \u00a0Contemporary art was displayed next to classic works.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2977.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2977.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2977\" width=\"400\" height=\"279\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was a treat to see Aboriginal art and learn that recognition was given to the artists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2993.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2993.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2993\" width=\"400\" height=\"273\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3010.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3010.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3010\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We spent several hours exploring the Art Gallery and saw a variety of artistic works.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3023.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3023.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3023\" width=\"400\" height=\"223\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On our way out of the Gallery, we saw a pair of colorful birds perched on a wire. \u00a0They\u2019re native to the state of New South Wales and the city of Sydney.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2983.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2983.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2983\" width=\"400\" height=\"324\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; November 16, 2018 People told us that Australian weather was unpredictable and it changes quickly, so I carried an umbrella &amp; rain jacket in my daypack.
