{"id":14702,"date":"2018-11-18T20:23:26","date_gmt":"2018-11-19T01:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14702"},"modified":"2018-12-23T20:25:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-24T01:25:00","slug":"sydney-opera-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14702","title":{"rendered":"Sydney Opera House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday &#8211; November 18, 2018<\/p>\n<p>We were very lucky to get tickets to an afternoon performance of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. \u00a0They played two of our favorite Beethoven pieces in the magnificent Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_2227.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_2227.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 2227\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We attended a pre-concert lecture given by Francis Merson who was the former editor of an Australian classical music magazine. The lecture was held in the \u201cNorth Foyer\u201d overlooking beautiful Sydney Harbor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8788.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_8788.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8788\" width=\"400\" height=\"256\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3147.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3147.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3147\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was an excellent talk about Beethoven\u2019s life and Mr. Merson explained the story of the two pieces: Beethoven\u2019s Violin Concerto and the beautiful 5th Symphony. \u00a0After the lecture, we had enough time to find our seats in the concert hall.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8803.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_8803.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8803\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was surprised that there were seat behind the orchestra and on both sides. \u00a0I don\u2019t know what the sound would be like in those areas. \u00a0This is a photo I took from our seats facing the orchestra. \u00a0This is the largest concert hall at the SOH with more than 2,000 seats.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_E8801.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_E8801.jpg\" alt=\"IMG E8801\" width=\"400\" height=\"284\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another surprise was that the musicians of the Chamber Orchestra stood up during the entire performance (except the cellists). \u00a0The conductor was Richard Tognetti who played the violin while conducting. \u00a0It was an incredible performance! \u00a0And a real treat!<\/p>\n<p>This is a view of the city of Sydney looking from the Opera House. \u00a0There was a different cruise ship in the harbor every other day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8781.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_8781.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8781\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Opera House at night:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8756.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_8756.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8756\" width=\"400\" height=\"296\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday &#8211; November 18, 2018 We were very lucky to get tickets to an afternoon performance of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. \u00a0They played two of our favorite Beethoven pieces in the magnificent Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.
