{"id":14731,"date":"2018-11-23T20:38:15","date_gmt":"2018-11-24T01:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14731"},"modified":"2018-12-23T20:40:34","modified_gmt":"2018-12-24T01:40:34","slug":"photos-around-sydney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=14731","title":{"rendered":"Photos Around Sydney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; November 23, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Jeff and I rode public transportation and walked all over the city of Sydney during our two weeks here. \u00a0We obtained Opal cards and put some money on them to have access to all the buses, trains, ferries, and light-rail trams all over the city. The cost of transportation depended on the distance. Most ferry rides were about six Australian dollars. The trains and trams were just a couple of Aussie dollars. Great public transportation system!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3528.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3528.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3528\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The main commercial street down the center of Sydney is George Street. \u00a0Most of the street was closed to traffic because a light-rail tram system was being built. \u00a0I\u2019d love to come back and see it in action.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3521.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3521.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3521\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sydney is developed with modern high-rise office and apartment buildings. \u00a0A few original sand-stone buildings are still standing as a reminder of Sydney\u2019s elegant Victorian British roots. \u00a0The Strand Arcade is one of those original buildings. \u00a0Today the Strand houses Australian high-end boutiques, tailors and dressmakers, a custom shoe manufacturer, a bridal salon, art gallery, jewelers, a chocolatier, and several restaurants.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3533.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3533.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3533\" width=\"400\" height=\"393\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3538.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3538.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3538\" width=\"400\" height=\"247\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3545.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3545.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3545\" width=\"272\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3558.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3558.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3558\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the commercial shopping spectrum was Market City. \u00a0This was a low-end marketplace with outlet stores, a supermarket, Paddy\u2019s Market filled with inexpensive tourist souvenirs, and an Asian food-court.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3590.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3590.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3590\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3600.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3600.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3600\" width=\"400\" height=\"270\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3601.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3601.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3601\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8897.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_8897.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8897\" width=\"400\" height=\"313\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Did I mention the Australian White Ibis? \u00a0They\u2019re everywhere, like giant pigeons or our sparrows, picking up bits of food dropped by careless people. \u00a0Their heads, tails, and feet are black and their bodies are off-white or light gray, so I don\u2019t know how they were named.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"DSC_3983-2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC_3983-2.jpg\" alt=\"DSC 3983 2\" width=\"399\" height=\"322\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Buskers were at all the prime tourist locations. \u00a0The young man playing the didgeridoo in the photo below was near the train station on Circular Quay.
