The day was a little overcast, but it didn&#8217;t deter the vendors on the river.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15302\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7172.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It had been after dark a few days ago when we passed through the locks on the Nile River southbound on our way to Aswan. But today we all watched our boat maneuver through the narrow passageway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15303\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15304\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"303\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t quite the magnificent Panama Canal, but nonetheless, fun to watch <em>The Mojito<\/em> &#8220;squeeze&#8221; into the lock. Trucks and donkey carts passed over the bridge above us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15305\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, Jeff and I settled into comfortable chairs on the top deck and relaxed and watched the ever-changing shoreline of the Nile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15306\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15307\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15308\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15309\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15310\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sometime in the afternoon, Maged called us to visit &#8220;the Bridge&#8221; and give our regards to the captain of <em>The Mojito<\/em>. \u00a0He was an older gentleman who had worked his way up the ranks of Nile River boats since his youth. \u00a0He had started with rowboats and <em>feluccas,<\/em> then skippered larger<em> dahabiyas <\/em>and other motor boats. \u00a0He has been piloting and steering large commercial tourist boats for the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15311\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was interesting to see the Bridge and the crew&#8217;s &#8216;bird&#8217;s-eye view.&#8217; \u00a0The captain sat with his legs folded beneath him on a high wooden chair. \u00a0As our group entered the Bridge, he smiled but kept his intense gaze on the river.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15312\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_7206.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15313\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tonight, we had a special dinner of duck prepared by the very proud chefs.
