{"id":15512,"date":"2019-05-30T17:32:42","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T21:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=15512"},"modified":"2019-07-02T09:04:38","modified_gmt":"2019-07-02T13:04:38","slug":"spring-in-the-big-apple-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=15512","title":{"rendered":"Spring in The Big Apple 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few more photos I took this spring season. \u00a0&#8220;Meet me at the clock.&#8221; \u00a0Every New Yorker knows where that is!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15515\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_2167.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The latest major exhibit at the Bronx NY Botanical Garden is <em>Brazilian Modern: The Living Art of Roberto Burle Marx.<\/em> He was a landscape architect, painter, naturalist, and artist who lived in Brazil from 1909 to 1994.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15516\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_8105.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Roberto Burle Marx designed the black and white mosaic of the Copacabana Beach promenade. The NY Botanical Garden staff created a lush tropical garden outside the Conservatory with a black &amp; white pathway simulating Rio de Janeiro&#8217;s famous beach walkway. A reminder of Rio!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15517\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_8070.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"262\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Peonies were in full bloom!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15518\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_8064.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"271\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The day I visited the Garden, <em>Nation Beat<\/em> played exciting rhythmic Brazilian music:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15519\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_8118.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"279\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Visitors created their own blue and white paper &#8220;tiles&#8221; to decorate communal walls.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15520\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_8129.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On another day I went to MoMA &#8211; the Museum of Modern Art for a special temporary closing event for members. It was my chance to see the museum before their next major expansion into larger new galleries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15521\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_2215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fabulous music was provided by <em>Mathis Sound Orchestra<\/em>. Mathis Picard was the pianist and bandleader of this &#8220;jazz infused brand of dance music&#8221; inspired by Picard&#8217;s French-Malagasy roots. Great Fun!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15522\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_2226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>View of the sculpture garden:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15523\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_2261.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even the nearby water tower is a work of art:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15524\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_2262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MoMA will be closed until October 21.
