{"id":16026,"date":"2019-12-08T10:57:35","date_gmt":"2019-12-08T15:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=16026"},"modified":"2019-12-20T07:50:51","modified_gmt":"2019-12-20T12:50:51","slug":"more-joys-of-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=16026","title":{"rendered":"More Joys of Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday December 8, 2019<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s so much fun to wake up in the morning to look out the window and see Paris!!! \u00a0Unfortunately, my week here is rapidly flying by. <em>La greve <\/em>continues without an end in sight. \u00a0Neither, President Macron&#8217;s government or the striking railroad workers union are willing to yield or compromise. It seems this will be a long strike.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16027\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4325.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"303\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, I rode the automated #1 Metro to<em> le Jeu de Paume. <\/em>The original handball court built in 1861 is now an arts center for modern photography and media.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16028\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Current exhibits were black &amp; white photos by the American photographer, Peter Hujar and mixed media works by Zineb Sedira. Both artists&#8217; works were interesting and thought-provoking.<\/p>\n<p>It was pouring rain outside so I took my time exploring the galleries. Afterwards, I walked toward<em> l&#8217;eglise de la Madeleine<\/em>. The church was built in the style of a classic Greek temple and is always thrilling to see.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16030\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4345.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rain had stopped but all the streets were wet with colorful reflections. I followed the fallen sycamore leaves up the grand Boulevard des Capucines .<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16031\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_E4348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"308\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;to the magnificent <em>Palais Garnier<\/em> aka<em> l&#8217;Opera National de Paris. <\/em>Another one of my favorite buildings in Paris. The entrance to the Opera Metro station was firmly closed:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16032\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had planned to take a guided tour of the Opera house but changed my mind when I arrived. I continued walking to the fun and colorful &#8220;art nouveau&#8221; Galeries Lafayette flagship store with its fabulous dome:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16033\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4365.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16034\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4367.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s difficult to see in the photo above, but a suspended walkway was built over the open space in the Galerie so people could walk out and take selfies with the tree. There was a very long line!<\/p>\n<p>I went up and out to the roof (with hundreds of other tourists) to see the panoramic views of Paris:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16035\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4371.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16036\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4372.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16037\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4373.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"302\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The dark clouds were gone as the sun set over the Opera Garnier and endless tourists were busy taking selfies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16039\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4406.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The City of Lights&#8221; is a fun place to visit in December!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16046\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_4402.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday December 8, 2019 It&#8217;s so much fun to wake up in the morning to look out the window and see Paris!!! \u00a0Unfortunately, my week here is rapidly flying by.
