We had a good night&#8217;s sleep in the comfortable McDonald Hotel and were ready to explore the capital city.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16765\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"292\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One highlight of our walking tour of Edinburgh was a leisurely walk down the Royal Mile to look at the medieval architecture and modern shops and pubs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16766\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7856.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16767\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7864.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"290\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16768\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7885.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>St. Giles Cathedral is known for its crown-shaped steeple. The building dates from the 14th century and is the main place of worship for the Church of Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16769\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7892.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16784\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7891.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were many shops to buy kilts, woolens, bagpipes, whisky, and other Scottish products.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16770\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7873.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16773\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7968.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh Castle dominates the the city skyline. The historic fortress was built on Castle Rock in 1103 and was home to Scottish and English monarchs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16771\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7924.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16772\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7934.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh is a UNESCO City of Literature and the most famous writer was Sir Walter Scott. A significant monument honors Scott&#8217;s life and works and is located on the edge of Princes Street Gardens<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16774\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7992.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"307\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One day we found an outdoor market which was fun to explore.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16775\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7966.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16776\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_7965.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On another day, there was a lively parade:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16778\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_8045.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"305\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16779\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_8024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16780\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_8028.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16781\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_8035.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh was a lovely city.
