I made a reservation at the Park Terrace Hotel in Manhattan for a three night stay.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2086-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20314\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Joey Bats\u2019 Portuguese Tarts in GCT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>My son Chris met me at Grand Central Terminal where we sampled Pasteis de Nata custard tarts. Delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2096-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20315\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A Century of The New Yorker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We stopped off at the Schwarzman Building of the NY Public Library to view the special exhibition celebrating the 100th Anniversary of The New Yorker Magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2219-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20316\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We said \u201cHello!\u201d to Patience and Fortitude.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2101-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20317\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Contemporary Art<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It was a pleasant walk uptown to MOMA &#8211; the Modern Museum of Art &#8211; to experience Christian Marclay\u2019s fascinating exhibit simply called <em>The Clock.<\/em> It was amazing and indescribable in a few words!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2107-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20318\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fifth Avenue <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Louis Vuitton flagship store looked like a huge stack of their famous luggage. It was built to camouflage ongoing construction.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2103-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20319\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">French Bistro<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dinner at Au Bonne Soupe on west 55th street before going to see the off-Broadway play \u201cAmerikin\u201d at 59E59 Theater. It was very good. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2110-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20320\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Amerikin Stage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>On Thursday March 13th, Chris joined me and we took a subway uptown to the N.Y. Historical to see their latest exhibits.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2117-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20321\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Me and Abe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, a private event closed the museum to the public, but they gave us two free tickets to return on another day. After a tasty lunch at La Pecora Blanca on Columbus Avenue, we entered Central Park at 72nd Street and saw the famous Strawberry Fields memorial to John Lennon. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2136-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20322\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Imagine <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>There was a crowd of young people gathered around the flower-strewn \u201cImagine\u201d memorial. They listened to a busker who was playing Beetles\u2019 songs on his guitar. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2139-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20323\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Strawberry Fields in Central Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Chris and I walked through the park to the east side. Our goal was to find the beginning of a virtual tour of Christo &amp; Jeanne-Claude\u2019s Gates.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"184\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/903118eacaa94b6d9c6e387aa651ba44-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20327\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Virtual Gates<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This year was the 20th anniversary of the artists\u2019 monumental project which had rows of saffron-colored \u201cgates\u201d along several paths in Central Park in 2005. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"184\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/0de06910c9604a868f704b71643cc6a9-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20328\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Gates<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>To celebrate, a virtual tour was created for smartphones where people walked along the same paths using the app as a visual guide. It was amazing!! I was able to take photos as if The Gates were really there!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"184\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/84ef317c8ee24cc58152fd9e770df325-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20329\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Path of Gates<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Afterwards, we went into the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see a current exhibit of landscape paintings. We enjoyed a tea break in the Patrons Lounge. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2192-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20331\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Patron\u2019s Lounge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Later, we took a scenic bus ride down 5th Avenue and had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants: Franchia Cafe. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"294\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2211-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20332\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Franchia Cafe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Friday morning, March 14th, I crossed the street to see the \u201cTreasures\u201d exhibit in the NYPL building. The library rotates their Cabinet of Wonders of literary and artistic treasures regularly. Great stuff: Dickens\u2019 desk, James Baldwin\u2019s manuscripts, medieval atlases, Albrecht Durer prints, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"286\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2226-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20333\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fortitude <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Afterwards, I walked to The Morgan Library on Madison and 36th Street. I wanted to see the two current special exhibits. One on the author Franz Kafka and the other exhibit was about the life of Belle da Costa Greene, the first director of the Pierpont Morgan Library.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"332\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2251-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20334\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Morgan Library <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I met my granddaughter, Hannah at an Apple computer repair shop on 36th Street. She had a problem with her computer. Chris later joined us and we had a fun afternoon chatting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris and I walked up to west 50th Street to Urban Hawker\u2019s for a casual dinner. Singaporean street food is represented by 17 vendors offering a variety of Asian cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2266-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20335\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Inside Urban Hawker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I had roast chicken from Hainan Jones and Chris had a tofu dish from Jakarta Munch. Both delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"328\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2263-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20337\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Singapore Vendor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Chris walked me to the theater to see an off-Broadway performance of Perfect Crime. It was just okay.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2269-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20341\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Broadway <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I enjoyed walking back to the hotel afterwards. It was fun seeing all the tourists and the lights of the city at night. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"292\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2281-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20342\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">City Lights<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/img_2279-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20343\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bryant Park in Fog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I got a late start on Saturday: relaxed, and enjoyed a couple of Nespressos in my hotel room.
