November 2, 2011<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The only compensation for leaving Paris is the idea of going to my other favorite city: Venice! \u00a0The flight time between these cities is only one hour and 20 minutes, however it took us all day to arrive at our hotel in Venice. \u00a0By the way, all the photos in this entry were taken with my iPhone because my camera was packed away. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We waited almost an hour in the lobby of Le Relais du Louvre Hotel for the airport van to pick us up. \u00a0It&#8217;s a warm and inviting space and we were patient. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3320\" title=\"IMG_3225\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Lobby of Le Relais du Louvre<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It takes about an hour, depending on the traffic, to go from the center of Paris out to Charles deGaulle Airport. \u00a0We had made reservations from New York to fly on Easyjet between the two European cities. \u00a0This is a relatively new British economy airline and we didn&#8217;t know what to expect. \u00a0We had read horror stories about Ryan Air and opted not to go with them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3228.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3321\" title=\"IMG_3228\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Charles deGaulle Airport<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We arrived more than two hours before our flight. \u00a0There are no &#8220;reserved seats&#8221; on Easyjet but rather &#8220;first come, first served&#8221;, so we thought it was better to arrive early. \u00a0Typical of a British Airline, we were hassled with our carry-ons and had to cram our usual carry-ons into one bag each. \u00a0Once past security, we could divide the bags again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3234.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3322\" title=\"IMG_3234\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Flying Over the French Alps<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We cued-up with the mostly European passengers and were able to get seats together near a window. \u00a0The airplane was clean and the boarding was orderly. \u00a0Everything on the plane is for sale: food, drinks, snacks, shopping, etc. \u00a0The flight attendants worked the aisles like hawkers in the Turkish markets trying to sell their goods and services. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3236.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3324\" title=\"IMG_3236\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Passing the Italian Alps<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then we arrived in squeeky-clean and modern Marco Polo Airport which is located on the land side of Venice. \u00a0We picked up our luggage and went through Passport Control. \u00a0We easily found the ticket booth for the boat-bus called Alilaguna and purchased a one-way ticket to Venice for 15 Euros. \u00a0A round-trip ticket would have been 25 Euros, but we wanted to keep our options open. \u00a0There are many ways to travel across the lagoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3239.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3325\" title=\"IMG_3239\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3239.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a>Marco Polo Airport<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We waited about 40 minutes in the floating and rocking station-house for the boat. \u00a0When it finally came, it filled up with mostly older American tourists like us. \u00a0It was after 4:30 in the afternoon and the sun was low in the sky. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3244.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3327\" title=\"IMG_3244\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3244.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Across The Venetian Lagoon<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I had read that the best way to arrive in Venice is by boat across the lagoon. \u00a0You arrive slowly and calmly, in all weather; watching the light play on the water, in the same way that people have been going to Venice for thousands of years. \u00a0It looks like endless water until the towers in the distance become more distinct and grow taller as you approach. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3257.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3328\" title=\"IMG_3257\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>A Lone Gondolier<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s fun to think that Marco Polo and all the other adventurers arrived in Venice by boat, across this beautiful expanse of water. \u00a0The Alilaguna boat-bus made many stops along the way to drop off tourists. \u00a0It was a nice slow leisurely ride to see the outer islands and the outer Foundamenta Nuovo. \u00a0It took well over an hour to finally arrive at our stop: San Marco.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3264.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3329\" title=\"IMG_3264\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a>Piazza San Marco<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We finally arrived in Venice!! \u00a0Beautiful magical Venice!! \u00a0We disembarked with our suitcases and rolled them to our hotel nearby. \u00a0It was a journey to get here; it took the whole day, but we finally made it!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3268.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3330\" title=\"IMG_3268\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3268.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ahhhh&#8230;&#8230; Venice&#8230;&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We had made reservations to stay at the Concordia Hotel just off the Piazza San Marco across from the church. \u00a0We were a little worried about noise from the crowds of tourists and the bells of San Marco and the Clock Tower. \u00a0The reception desk of the hotel was on the second floor because of the frequent &#8220;alta aqua&#8221; and we successfully checked in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8159.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3343\" title=\"DSC_8159\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8159.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"289\" \/><\/a>The Concordia Hotel<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We had a welcoming glass of prosecco and were shown to our room on the third floor. \u00a0We freshened up and went out to see Venice in the evening. \u00a0It was still early, restaurants were opening, and most of the shops were open. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8048.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3344\" title=\"DSC_8048\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8048.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>A Mask Shop<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3346\" title=\"DSC_8031\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8031.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>A Gondolier At Night<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8053.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3345\" title=\"DSC_8053\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8053.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Another Mask Shop<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We explored the narrow streets of Venice for a little while. \u00a0We found a good place to have a relaxing dinner and returned to the hotel, happy to be in Venice again. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday &#8211;
