We also noticed that the small plaza was full of water and the wooden walkways were stretched out in a line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8377.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3407\" title=\"DSC_8377\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8377.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a>The Saturday Morning Tourist Line to Get Into St. Mark&#8217;s<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We had read about &#8220;alta aqua&#8221; before we arrived in Venice but had never experienced it. \u00a0&#8220;Oh boy!&#8221; \u00a0We thought, &#8220;What fun!&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8380.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3408\" title=\"DSC_8380\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Aqua Alta<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Venetians take the high water, which they call &#8220;alta aqua&#8221;, in their stride. \u00a0The walkways had been piled up in all the low-lying places in the city and they were stretched-out in a line early in the morning as the lagoon water rises. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8382.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3410\" title=\"DSC_8382\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8382.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a>Workers Connecting the Walkways<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Venetians going to work are not too inconvenienced by the tide, but the tourists snapping photos get in their way. \u00a0Early in the morning we heard the siren which warns the people that the sea is rising. \u00a0One of the workers in our hotel told us they have &#8220;gum boots&#8221; for the guests, if we wanted to walk through the water of the rising tide. \u00a0We didn&#8217;t think we needed them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8384.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3411\" title=\"DSC_8384\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8384.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Tourists At The Doge&#8217;s Palace<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Later in the morning, the water slowly receded, then the tourists and Venetians resume their daily lives. The shop keepers mop their floors and the walkways get piled up again ready for the next invasion of &#8220;alta aqua&#8221;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8387.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3412\" title=\"DSC_8387\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8387.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Venice sparkles and is truly &#8220;magical&#8221; in the brilliant sun of summer, but now in the rain it takes on a mystical cloak of quiet beauty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8399.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3414\" title=\"DSC_8399\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8399.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a>Working Gondolas in the Rain<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I took this photo through the glass in the floating vaporetto station. \u00a0The gondoliers, who look like they&#8217;re walking on water, were taking eager tourists out for rides despite the rain. \u00a0Notice the tourists with their umbrellas open in the photo. \u00a0:-)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8423.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3415\" title=\"DSC_8423\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8423.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a>Entrance to La Biennale<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We decided that this was another museum day. \u00a0During odd-numbered years, Venice hosts an International Art Exposition known simply as &#8220;The Biennial&#8221;. \u00a0This is a celebration of all forms of contemporary art: visual, dance, theater, music, cinema, photography, video, poetry, spoken and written art. \u00a0The art pieces are exhibited and performed all over the city of Venice from June 4th through November 27th. The general theme this year is &#8220;Illuminations&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8408.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3417\" title=\"DSC_8408\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8408.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Map of the Main Exhibits and Performance Spaces<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of the largest exhibition spaces is in the Giardini which is a lovely park at the end of the main island. \u00a0It had stopped raining by the time we took the vaporetto and got off at the Giardini station. \u00a0Because this has been an important international cultural event since 1895, there are permanent exhibition buildings in the park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8445.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3418\" title=\"DSC_8445\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8445.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Art and Pigeons<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We entered the main building and immediately noticed the still pigeons staring down at us. \u00a0We never saw an attribution to a particular artist, but the pigeons were amusing. \u00a0We had wondered why there were fewer pigeons in the Piazza!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8457.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3419\" title=\"DSC_8457\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8457.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a>Interactive Art<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I won&#8217;t bore you with too many photos of \u00a0&#8220;other people&#8217;s art&#8221;, but there were a few really interesting pieces like the above &#8220;interactive&#8221; piece. The entire room was full of red and black clay which visitors could either write a smear on the walls or stick the clay onto the walls in a self-expressive gesture. \u00a0Many people were participating and wrote words on the walls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8473.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3421\" title=\"DSC_8473\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8473.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a>Photographing Art<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Photography was permitted throughout the entire exhibit in every room, except in the central room which had three gigantic Tintoretto paintings hanging under some stuffed pigeons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8466.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3420\" title=\"DSC_8466\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8466.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a>Photographs and The Ever-Present Pigeons<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The works of art were very interesting and the exhibition spaces were excellent places to show the pieces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3309.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3422\" title=\"IMG_3309\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Venetian Art<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This multi-media wooden piece was in the Venetian building. \u00a0The upright structures resembled the hulls of boats, perhaps gondolas. \u00a0Each hull had a video of water rushing by with the appropriate whooshing sound. \u00a0I thought it was a good representation of a watery Venice, especially in the rain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8492.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3423\" title=\"DSC_8492\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8492.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Library and Seating Area<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After all the walking, we needed a place to sit and rest. \u00a0This area near the end of the exhibition building was called the library and also provided free WiFi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8498.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3424\" title=\"DSC_8498\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8498.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Bienniale Cafe<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Just outside the library we found this whimsically decorated Cafe. \u00a0What a visual treat!! The seating wasn&#8217;t too practical, but it was a fun place for a cappuccino. \u00a0The far wall was covered with large pieces of reflecting mirrors which were mounted in a helter-skelter random manner. \u00a0It provided an interesting backdrop for the cafe!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8500.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3425\" title=\"DSC_8500\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Place Your Orders!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Angled mirrors behind the coffee bar reflected interesting and varied pieces of the room and the people. \u00a0The decorators must have had fun designing this room.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8501.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3426\" title=\"DSC_8501\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8501.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a>Reflections on the Back Wall<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8514.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3427\" title=\"DSC_8514\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8514.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a>Outdoor Cube<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We found &#8220;art&#8221; everywhere! \u00a0Perhaps that is what &#8220;Art&#8221; is&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8522.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3430\" title=\"DSC_8522\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8522.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a>Brazilian Art<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Probably the most thought-provoking and unusual work of art was the installation by a Brazilian artist whose name I can&#8217;t remember now. (my apologies!) \u00a0The open room was a sparse chaotic mix of litter, pieces of twine and wood, graffiti, dirt, empty plastic bottles and other garbage. \u00a0In the center of the path which crossed the room was a wooden box with rotten smelly fish-heads placed on rock salt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8531.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3431\" title=\"DSC_8531\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8531.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Room Full of Water<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of my favorite works was a minimalist empty room that had been flooded with water. Visitors had to walk into the room on the L-shaped boards that traversed the room above the water. It reminded me of the walkways above alta aqua in Venice today!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_85322.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3434\" title=\"DSC_8532\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_85322.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>A Bit of Humorous Comment<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We found the neoclassical 1930s brick building which houses art from the &#8220;Stati Uniti d&#8217;America&#8221;. \u00a0The contemporary artistic team of Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla are representing the United States at this year&#8217;s Biennial, with their collaboration named: Gloria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8534.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3439\" title=\"DSC_8534\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8534.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Poster for The American Exhibit<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Outside the American pavilion was an up-side-down military tank with a tread-mill mounted on top, which had been a performance art piece during the summer season. \u00a0You can see it in action on a UTube video. \u00a0Just inside the front door, in the rotunda, was a copy of a classical bronze statue of &#8220;The Statue of Freedom&#8221; lying down in a tanning bed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8536.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3446\" title=\"DSC_8536\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8536.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a>Freedom on the Tanning Bed<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to the New York Times, &#8220;<em>Thomas Crawford\u2019s \u201cStatue of Freedom,\u201d also known as \u201cFreedom Triumphant in War and Peace\u201d \u2014 a classical female figure, her right hand resting on the hilt of a sword and her left holding a wreath of victory \u2014 which has stood atop the United States Capitol since 1863.&#8221; <\/em>Imagine the statue on a tanning bed. \u00a0Interesting comment about our current social culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8533.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3440\" title=\"DSC_8533\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a>Inverted Tank With Treadmill<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There were old first-class convertible airline seats which commanded the center of two bare rooms. \u00a0Shabby testaments to wealth and power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8537.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3441\" title=\"DSC_8537\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8537-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a>American Tourists<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8542.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3442\" title=\"DSC_8542\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8542-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a>Convertible Airline Seats<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the center of another room there was a tall wooden organ mounted on top of a round pedestal. \u00a0We walked around the organ and admired the beautiful wood and organ pipes. \u00a0At the back in the center of the organ, there was a built-in video screen and keyboard which looked like an ATM machine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_85402.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3445\" title=\"DSC_8540\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_85402.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>ATM Organ<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We were more than a bit surprised when a young American woman stepped up on the platform and approached the ATM Organ with her bank card and proceeded to type in her codes on the keyboard. \u00a0When she finished her transaction, the organ automatically played a short tune. She withdrew just a token amount, which demonstrated her na\u00efvety given the current exchange rate and bank fees, but we onlookers were thrilled to hear the organ pipes blast out the loud tune.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8545.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3449\" title=\"DSC_8545\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8545.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>The Danish Pavilion<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Similar to a World&#8217;s Fair there were many interesting permanent buildings in the Giardini which were designed to exhibit artistic works from different countries. There were also many buildings throughout Venice which were transformed into exhibition spaces. \u00a0It was as if the entire city of Venice became an artistic palette once again, as it has been doing for hundreds of years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8560.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3450\" title=\"DSC_8560\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8560.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Fruits &amp; Vegetables For Sale Along the Quay<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We left the Biennial Exhibit in the Giardini and walked behind the park. \u00a0This was a new neighborhood for us and we thought it would be fun to explore. \u00a0It had stopped raining and the narrow streets were deserted. \u00a0Sounds of voices and scents of garlic and onions wafted out from the buildings. \u00a0It was lunch time!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8572.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3451\" title=\"DSC_8572\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8572.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a>Resident Parking<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It was still early, but we were tired of walking, so we hopped on the vaporetto and returned to our hotel for a rest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8586.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3452\" title=\"DSC_8586\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8586.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Inside the Cabin of the Vaporetto<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Because of the time change and approaching winter, it became dark about five o&#8217;clock. \u00a0Venice is safe at night and the city lights are beautiful. \u00a0We just a little worried about getting lost on unfamiliar and dark alleyways. \u00a0There are signs painted on the corners of many buildings which point to either &#8220;Rialto&#8221; or &#8220;San Marco&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8590.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3453\" title=\"DSC_8590\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8590.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a>A Campo At NIght<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For dinner we went to Do Forno which was right near our hotel. \u00a0It had a small entrance but the restaurant had several large rooms in the back. \u00a0Do Forno is an old fashioned Venetian restaurant with attentive service and good food. \u00a0Someone wrote somewhere that the interior was decorated like the Orient Express Train because of the elegant highly polished wood and silvered mirrors. \u00a0I had Grandma&#8217;s tortellini soup and sea bass which were excellent. \u00a0Jeff had a delicious chicken Proven\u00e7al. \u00a0It was good to have a wonderful meal in a warm and inviting restaurant at the end of a misty rainy day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday &#8211; November 5, 2011 The Sirocco wind continued to blow and we had another rainy morning in Venice. \u00a0From the breakfast room window of the hotel we could see the tourists with umbrellas unfurled.
