{"id":3459,"date":"2011-11-06T16:39:54","date_gmt":"2011-11-06T21:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=3459"},"modified":"2011-11-21T17:48:43","modified_gmt":"2011-11-21T22:48:43","slug":"alta-alta-aqua","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=3459","title":{"rendered":"Walking On Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sunday &#8211; November 6, 2011<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Everyone in Venice walks on water!! \u00a0I love to watch the gondoliers work their long paddles through the water, moving back and forth near the rear of the gondola, silently moving the boat forward, they appear to be walking on water&#8230;&#8230; \u00a0Today&#8217;s higher &#8220;alta aqua&#8221; forced everyone to walk on the long platforms above the water and everyone was walking on water!! <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3320.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3460\" title=\"IMG_3320\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3320.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a>Sunday Morning in Front of St. Mark&#8217;s<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tourists and Venetians seemed to take the higher water level in stride. \u00a0Local police stood in the water keeping the walkers quickly moving through the square. \u00a0No photos; just keep moving! \u00a0&#8220;Avanti!!&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3322.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3461\" title=\"IMG_3322\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_3322.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a>Walking On Water<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The water seemed to recede fairly quickly and before we realized it, the \u00a0alta aqua was gone. \u00a0The pigeons and the tourists slowly moved in and took over the square again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8613.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3462\" title=\"DSC_8613\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8613.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Post-Alta Aqua<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We walked out to the harbor to see the tide. \u00a0The water gently lapped over the edge. \u00a0The high tide elevated the boats to the same level as the people on the quay. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8621.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3463\" title=\"DSC_8621\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8621.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Gondolas<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We walked around the small alleyways avoiding the flooded ones and marveled at Mother Nature and the resiliency of the Venetians. \u00a0 It was Sunday morning and the tourists were out in full force. \u00a0It seemed that the locals had receded with the tide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8627.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3464\" title=\"DSC_8627\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8627.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a>Sunday Brunch at the Venice Hard Rock Cafe<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The rain started again and we had a snack at Le Chat qui Rit which is a utilitarian cafeteria near the Hard Rock Cafe. \u00a0We just felt like having a bowl of soup and some good Italian bread on this damp, rainy, chilly day. Then we rode the vaporetto to Gallerie dell&#8217;Accademia located on the Grand Canal to visit the famous museum of art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8630.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3466\" title=\"DSC_8630\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_8630.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_86361.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3467\" title=\"DSC_8636\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/DSC_86361.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" \/><\/a>First Room at L&#8217;Accademia<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Gallerie dell&#8217;Accademia, which was originally created as an art school in 1750, gave a warm and glowing welcome. \u00a0It contains masterpieces of Venetian painting up to the 18th century. \u00a0The collection was generally arranged chronologically starting in the first room from approximately the 14th century.
