{"id":3753,"date":"2012-03-01T16:16:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T20:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=3753"},"modified":"2012-03-22T21:30:14","modified_gmt":"2012-03-23T01:30:14","slug":"a-tropical-japanese-garden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=3753","title":{"rendered":"A Tropical Japanese Garden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thursday, March 1, 2012<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I enjoyed a brisk walk along Ocean Boulevard early this morning. \u00a0It was a bright sunny day and a cool breeze was blowing off the Atlantic Ocean. \u00a0I walked from Atlantic Avenue north to George Bush Blvd and back. \u00a0It had to be two or three miles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMG_3794.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3760\" title=\"IMG_3794\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMG_3794.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>Path to the Atlantic Ocean<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After a light breakfast and a shower, I drove to the Morikami Museum &amp; Japanese Gardens in western Delray Beach. \u00a0The gardens are very well maintained and provide wonderful photographic opportunities due to the variety of seasonal flowering plants and bushes. \u00a0It&#8217;s always a surprise to see which plants or trees are in bloom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9397.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3759\" title=\"DSC_9397\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a>Beginning of the Garden Path<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since it was still early and not yet too hot, I started my visit in the garden. In Florida, like summer in New York, it&#8217;s better to do outdoor activities in the morning or evening rather than in the heat of mid-day. Visitors follow a path around the lake to view the plants and trees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9408.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3761\" title=\"DSC_9408\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9408.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Edo Period Garden<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The selection of plants at Morikami is based on Japanese gardens from different historical time periods. \u00a0The sign said they were not replicas of gardens, but &#8220;inspired&#8221; by six famous historical gardens which date from the 9th century through the 20th century. \u00a0Each garden is different and have their own personalities. \u00a0The total effect is beautiful. The visitor walks along the path from one beautiful garden to another.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9409.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3762\" title=\"DSC_9409\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9409.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a>Paradise Garden<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">About half way around the lake is a small island, Yamato, upon which is the Japanese style building which was the original museum. \u00a0There are two permanent exhibits there now which demonstrate the Japanese lifestyle to school groups. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9415.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3764\" title=\"DSC_9415\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9415.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Shaded Porch<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9416.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3765\" title=\"DSC_9416\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9416.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a>Japanese Classroom<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The building is a traditional Japanese house with several rooms decorated to look like a Japanese classroom, a bedroom with tatamis, \u00a0and a kitchen. \u00a0There were several school groups there when I arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9411.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3763\" title=\"DSC_9411\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9411.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a>One of the Bonsai Trees on Display<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It takes about an hour to walk around the entire lake, depending on how many stops you make and for how long. \u00a0There are many lovely places to stop and relax and contemplate Nature. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9417.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3766\" title=\"DSC_9417\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9417.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"254\" \/><\/a>A Lovely View<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Visitors can sit on the carefully placed benches and appreciate the beauty of a Japanese garden. \u00a0At the end of the path just near the museum building is a series of beautiful waterfalls with a couple of benches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9433.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3768\" title=\"DSC_9433\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9433.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a>The Morikami Museum<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The museum has grown and developed into an institution of Japanese cultural education. \u00a0The exhibit this season features 75 prints from a private collection of &#8220;sosaku hanga&#8221; or creative prints. \u00a0These are modern experimental contemporary woodblock prints from the 1950&#8217;s to the present.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9418.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3769\" title=\"DSC_9418\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSC_9418.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a>Happy Buddha &#8211; What a Life!
