October 23, 2012 \u00a0 \u00a0 51 degrees<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We were on the road and heading north despite the increasing clouds and a forecast of rain for the nest two days. \u00a0Our goal was to experience the fall foliage of New England. \u00a0Many of the trees seemed to be a bit past their prime, but the hills were ablaze in bright orange. \u00a0We drove along the beautiful Taconic Parkway and arrived in Williamstown, Massachusettes close to 1:00PM. \u00a0It is a lovely little college town in the north western part of the state. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5141\" title=\"DSC_5600\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fall Foliage on the Parkway<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our initial goal was the Clark Museum which we found easily. \u00a0Unfortunately, the museum was undergoing major renovations and construction so most of the museum&#8217;s famous collection was not on display. \u00a0The works which were on display in a temporary exhibit were impressive: several Renoirs, Winslow Homers, John Singer Sargents. \u00a0We made note to return in 2014 when the reconstruction is planned to be completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5619.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5142\" title=\"DSC_5619\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5619.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a>Marble House of the Clark Museum<\/p>\n<p>Closer to the center of town is The Williams College Museum of Art. \u00a0On exhibit was an eclectic collection of American Art which included an exhibit of early works by Sol DeWitt. \u00a0We saw a charming painting by Mary Cassat and an original copy of the Declaration of Independence. \u00a0The museum has excellent exhibition spaces and is used by the college as part of their educational programs. \u00a0Afterwards we drove a few miles along Route 2 to the next town of North Adams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5626.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5143\" title=\"DSC_5626\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5626.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>Interior Stairwell of Williams College Museum of Art<\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t have reservations but found a clean comfortable room at the Holiday Inn near the center of town. \u00a0It was chilly, but we walked around North Adams in the evening to see the shops and galleries. \u00a0The town has attracted artists since the opening of the Massachusettes Museum of Contemporary Art several years ago and is experiencing a resurgence of popularity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5603.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5144\" title=\"DSC_5603\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSC_5603.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>What&#8217;s Next?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday &#8211;
