It was a rough city with many large trucks and machines rumbling along dusty roads. There were flat wheat fields &amp; farm equipment along the highways and a booming oil &amp; gas industry. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4402.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6947\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4402.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4402\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a>Wheat Fields and Tractor<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Oil trucks filled local roads and clogged highways along the road out of the city. Route 2 was lined with oil drill support companies, hastily built barracks for workmen, tank &amp; silo companies, and John Deere tractor dealers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4408.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6949\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4408.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4408\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a>Pumping for Oil<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4409.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6950\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4409.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4409\" width=\"400\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a>Oil Pump<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4423.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6951\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4423.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4423\" width=\"400\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a>Huge Oil Well<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We passed many towns with interesting\u00a0names: Palermo, Melville, Bergen, Pingree, and Buchanan as we drove\u00a0along the 70 mph two-lane road.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4383.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6952\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4383.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4383\" width=\"400\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a>Freight Train, Silos, Tractor<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We stopped for lunch in Minot, ND where the server, Dimitri, was from Odessa, Ukraine. He said last winter had been\u00a0really cold in Minot with temperatures reaching down to minus forty degrees for several days. He said it wasn&#8217;t too bad, but recently he was looking for a job in Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4433.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6953\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/DSC_4433.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4433\" width=\"400\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>North Dakota Route 2<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Grain elevators, silos, and cell phone towers break up the vast horizon. For most of the day, our cell phones had 4\/5 bars of AT&amp;T service.
