{"id":785,"date":"2010-08-28T03:09:11","date_gmt":"2010-08-28T07:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=785"},"modified":"2015-02-14T13:51:58","modified_gmt":"2015-02-14T18:51:58","slug":"something-completely-different","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=785","title":{"rendered":"Something Completely Different"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As the Monty Python crew said many years ago, &#8220;And now for something completely different&#8230;&#8230;.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Yesterday, we left hot, humid, crowded, noisy, exciting, mysterious, amazing Istanbul, Turkey and flew to Amsterdam, Holland.\u00a0 The only similarities I could see in the two cities are the modern, clean, industrially-beautiful, comfortable airports in both cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8556.resized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-788\" title=\"DSC_8556.resized\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8556.resized.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>Istanbul, Turkey<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I bid fond farewells to the crew at the White House Hotel in the Sultanahmet district.\u00a0 All the people at the hotel were wonderful: friendly, kind, thoughtful, and helpful.\u00a0 They made me feel comfortable and at home for my entire stay in Istanbul.\u00a0 The location of the hotel was also perfect.\u00a0 It&#8217;s within walking distance of all the most important sights and sounds, but on a nice, quiet side-street.\u00a0 I recommend the hotel to everyone!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8193.resized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-792\" title=\"DSC_8193.resized\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8193.resized.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>Bridge Across the Bosporus<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A car came to the hotel to pick us up and drive us out to &#8220;the other airport&#8221;, not Ataturk Airport, on the Asian side of Istanbul.\u00a0 As a last farewell to the city, we got to ride through Istanbul from the European side, across the Golden Horn, then on the beautiful bridge across the Bosporus, and into the Asian part of Istanbul in morning rush-hour traffic.\u00a0 What a treat!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8587.resized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-789\" title=\"DSC_8587.resized\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8587.resized.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It was warm and humid and the temperature was rising through the high 80s at 8:00 AM in Istanbul.\u00a0 When we arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, after a three and a half hour flight, at about 3:00 PM, it was windy, cold, and raining&#8230;. and in the mid 60s for temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We had made a reservation at one of the hotels near the airport because neither of us wanted to go into Amsterdam on this trip.\u00a0 We had visited the beautiful city last year and were ready for something different.\u00a0 We wanted to take a break, relax a little, and take care of planning for the rest of the day.\u00a0 We settled in and took care of details for this part of the trip: renting a car, changing the place &amp; date of our return home, obtained some Euros, and had dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8613.resized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-790\" title=\"DSC_8613.resized\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/DSC_8613.resized.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I had an AMAZING trip through Anatolia with my cousins and my son.\u00a0 It was truly the trip of a lifetime, that none of us will ever forget.\u00a0 I will continue to add photos and memories to GallivantingGrandma, so please look back from time to time.\u00a0 But for now, just like in life, I have to move forward into &#8220;the present&#8221;.\u00a0 For now, I&#8217;ll continue to write about my experiences here in Western Europe and will post them when I have access to the Internet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As Bilbo Baggins said, &#8220;Fare well where-ever you fare&#8230;&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the Monty Python crew said many years ago, &#8220;And now for something completely different&#8230;&#8230;.&#8221;
