{"id":8835,"date":"2015-05-20T00:12:31","date_gmt":"2015-05-20T04:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=8835"},"modified":"2015-06-05T09:03:53","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T13:03:53","slug":"miraflores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=8835","title":{"rendered":"Miraflores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wednesday, May 20, 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lima, Peru is an unusual place. &#8216;The City of Kings&#8217; is\u00a0a desert located on the Pacific Ocean but the air is heavy with humidity and overcast most of the time with slight\u00a0variations in temperature. We were told, &#8220;It never rains in Lima. Just a drizzle.&#8221; I thought of Coleridge: &#8220;Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Today was our day to explore the Miraflores District so we walked to Avenue Larco, the main commercial street, and followed it as far as Parque Central.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27311.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8895\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27311.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2731\" width=\"400\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Heavy traffic clogged the avenue and very few street lights made crossings a challenge. There were numerous banks and each one had an armed guard posted outside the door wearing a bulletproof vest. Familiar fast food restaurants were all represented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27691.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8897\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27691.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2769\" width=\"400\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_28101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8898\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_28101.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2810\" width=\"400\" height=\"295\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0interesting fact about Lima is that most of the buses were privately owned. The city recently instituted a public transportation system so there are designated bus stops and city buses now. We saw a wide variety of buses in many different sizes, colors, and exterior decorations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27371.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8896\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27371.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2737\" width=\"303\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_2749.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8899\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_2749.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2749\" width=\"320\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Park Central aka Kennedy Park was lovely with exotic trees and flowers but was overrun with cats. \u00a0The cat in the photo above seemed to be hunting for birds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27771.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8900\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27771.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2777\" width=\"268\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27821.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8901\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_27821.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2782\" width=\"390\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We found El Museo del Cacao y Chocolate on Calle Berlin but unfortunately the workshop wasn&#8217;t in operation. The sun set at 5:50 pm today.
