This morning we continued our exploration of Gaudi&#8217;s architectural genius with visits to two major sites. Public transportation to Park Guell is challenging because it involves walking up a steep hill, so we took a taxi to the entrance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0638.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10127\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0638.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0638\" width=\"286\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_76681.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10128\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_76681.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7668\" width=\"306\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gaudi must have had an amazing sense of playfulness\u00a0because his designs are filled with whimsical touches. The buildings at the entrance to Park Guell look like gingerbread houses covered with frosting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0684.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10129\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0684.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0684\" width=\"400\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The park was financed by Eusebi Guell and built on a hill overlooking the city of Barcelona. Visitors can see the Mediterranean Sea in the distance from the overlook.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0742.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10130\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0742.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0742\" width=\"258\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0745.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10131\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0745.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0745\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is still under construction with planned completion in 2026 to mark the centennial of Gaudi&#8217;s death. Gaudi began his famous church\u00a0in 1882 but died unexpectedly before completion. The western facade is clean and modern\u00a0while the eastern facade resembles a gray\u00a0sand castle.
