{"id":9894,"date":"2015-11-18T15:40:17","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T20:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=9894"},"modified":"2015-12-06T09:22:56","modified_gmt":"2015-12-06T14:22:56","slug":"mon-jew-eek-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/?p=9894","title":{"rendered":"Mon-jew-eek and More"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wednesday, November 18, 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Today was our day to climb Montjuic, pronounced &#8220;mon-jew-eek,&#8221; the hill overlooking Barcelona&#8217;s harbor and city beaches.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77781.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10166\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77781.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7778\" width=\"400\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Besides a spectacular view of the city, there are many things to do and see, for example:\u00a0the Fundacio Miro, ruins of an 18th century castle, the Catalan Art Museum, and the 1929 World Fairgrounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0962.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10167\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0962.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0962\" width=\"400\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We took the Metro and a bus almost to the top of Montjuic to visit the best of Joan Miro&#8217;s artwork in the world. \u00a0The collection is housed in a fabulous building specially designed in 1975 by Josep Lluis Sert to showcase Miro&#8217;s amazing art. \u00a0Unfortunately, photography was not allowed in the galleries, but I took a few photos in the outdoor spaces.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77621.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10168\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77621.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7762\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77641.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10169\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_77641.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7764\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0958.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10170\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DSC_0958.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0958\" width=\"400\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_7770.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10171\" src=\"https:\/\/gallivantinggrandma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_7770.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7770\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then we rode the circa-1929 Teleferico del Puerto &#8211; Aeri del Port cable car down to the harbor peninsula known as Barceloneta. We rode from a station on the side of the hill to the top of a tall tower and onward to another tower by the beach.
